Complete crypto wallet guide — hot, cold and hardware wallets like Ledger and Trezor. Choose the right wallet and secure your private keys.

Wallets are the essential tool for storing and managing cryptocurrencies. Unlike traditional bank accounts, crypto wallets don’t actually “store” money — they store the private keys that control access to your blockchain assets. Whoever holds the private keys, controls the assets.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What’s the difference between hot wallets and cold wallets?

Hot wallets (like MetaMask, Trust Wallet) are connected to the internet — convenient and fast for daily use with small amounts. Cold wallets (like Ledger, Trezor) remain offline, offering much higher security for long-term storage of large amounts. Simply put: hot wallets are convenient but less secure, cold wallets are more secure but less convenient.

What happens if I lose my seed phrase?

Your seed phrase is the single key to recover your wallet. If you lose your seed phrase, your assets can never be recovered — no institution can help you. We recommend creating at least two physical backups (paper or metal), stored in separate locations.

A seed phrase (12-24 English words) is the human-readable form of your private keys. Your wallet generates all private keys and addresses from the seed phrase. Protecting your seed phrase = protecting all your assets. Never type or store your seed phrase online.

Which wallet should beginners use?

If you’re just starting out, begin with an exchange wallet (like your Binance or OKX account wallet). Once you’re comfortable, move to a hot wallet like MetaMask. When your holdings reach a significant amount (e.g., over $1000), strongly consider purchasing a hardware wallet.

What is token approval and why should I revoke it?

When using DApps, you need to authorize smart contracts to spend tokens from your wallet. Malicious contracts or unused authorizations can be exploited by attackers to steal your funds. Use tools like Revoke.cash to regularly check and revoke unnecessary approvals.
